FRAGILITY
Carmen Lopez
Spain

My weak point is the spoon, my creative vulnerability. Sometimes I want to escape it, but it assaults my mind, invades my notebooks, my house: metal, wood, enamel, glass. With its docility, it doesn’t force me to do anything—I am just an object! it retorts.
It appears in my work because I need it; it responds to my will; it is an object of delicate strength. Perhaps I should have belonged to the Dada movement.
In these current works, fragility is represented by the fishbone, a skeleton that speaks to us of the ephemeral, of the fragility of life.
In some cultures, the fish skeleton is a reminder of the transience of existence and its cycle: life and death.
