Lital Mendel | « After a few collections dealing with repetitive patterns, order and structure and making very delicate pieces, I got sick of it all. I felt like destroying, burning, tearing jewelry apart. In my work I tried to preserve the exact moment between designed deformed – Still distinctly relating to my previous collections but less inhibited, more unplanned maybe even reckless. The process involved taking jewelry already made from previous collections and then applying all sorts of material manipulations on them allowing me to simultaneously preserving some part of the old object while disfiguring other parts. » (*)
Sinead Cooke | « I make contemporary art jewelry that combines traditional skills and materials with re-purposed waste materials to create work that is both beautiful and thought provoking. In this body of work I was examining the ideas around material value. Informed by our consumer society, this collection of work exposes the possibilities that waste material has to offer. Mixing discarded packaging with silver further investigates notions of value. Through materiality and form, I am exploring the potential of this disposable plastic to be transformed into highly crafted and beautiful wearables. » (*)
Viktoria von Malottki | « Fernweh-Broschen Fernweh describes the longing of traveling to foreign countries to encounter new surroundings and cultures. Each of the 4 brooches represents one country I would like to travel. It illustrates what I mostly would like to explore there. The Brazil brooch stands for joyful festivities and samba. The Vietnam brooch for the delicious food especially the Phở dish. The Iceland brooch for it’s impressive scenery and flora as well as the best-known hand crafted wool products. The India brooch in it’s vivid colors is based on the kolams, an ornament and Hindu rite to be known to bring good fortune. » (*)
Hakan Aktug | « THE UNPREDICTABLE FORM/FOAM It fascinated me in different ways when I started to work with polyurethane foam. The froth expands, transforms and hardens. It creates texture conflict when carved. The final form of the foam is unique and unpredictable! I took that stuctural ambiguity in a good way. Because, it makes pieces unique and adds more character. » (*)
