« Whatever it is, it gets old and broken. But it can’t say it is not beautiful. The standard of objective beauty is clearly different from that of subjective. My works are images about window and memory. Combinations of sills, walls, objects, spaces and scenes drawn from memory were used to create
composite spaces and then embodied as jewelry. My own photos, transferred onto windows, expressed moments and memories; faded colors and patterns served as symbols for memories dimmed through time. The word ‘beautiful’ is inclusive and incomplete. This is because the forms of the broken and disappearing objects become beauty when the subjective memories or emotions of the individual are transferred. As broken objects become precious to some people, and collapsed spaces become places of memories for someone, ‘Beautiful’ means a variety of emotions, so ‘broken beauty’ is not a negative meaning. » Namkyung Lee
