Shining DESPAIR

Brooch « El sac“, 2023
Container: Recycled plastic, brass, silver, steel and led lights. Bag : hand-sewn velvet clothes, and embroidered lettering. 130x45x40mm
The plastic was marked according to the pattern made, on both sides, alternately to allow for folding. The plastic was fixed to the base with rivets. The LED lights were attached by means of an internal sheet metal structure with openings and silver wire.

What are our despairs, where do they come from, how many burdens are we able to bear, how much darkness oppresses us! It is only when we are able to get rid of them that we begin to “shine”. Our inner light illuminates our entire outer world.

With this brooch I want to visualise the heavy burdens we carry on our “shoulders”, using a symbolic sack placed in an “architectural container” that offers us light when we are able to “take off” this “sack”. This brooch should be placed on the shoulder or on the upper back, where the imaginary places the burden of the heavy bags.
