Nicole Schuster | « I was born in the “city of 100 fires” in the area of Ruhr/Germany, famous for its (almost former) coal and steel mines. The furnaces, gasometer, headframes, the bridges over motorways and rivers are fascinating me, as the stories that lie within and the continuous change and the rich culture that grows out of that retired industry. I work about the relation of nature and culture, as an opposite, as an addition, as a process. The tension between the environment created by humans and the final recapture of nature over the structures and ruins is flowing into my work, creating wearable sculptures that appear like poetic places or abstract landscapes. »(*)
