In April 2018, contemporary jewellery is taking over the city with our fourth international biennial edition of Melting Point. The Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València and its Department of Jewellery have the great pleasure to invite you to join us on this celebration: exhibitions, conferences and many activities to share ideas, experiences and deepen debates on the challenges faced by jewellery makers.
2018 Melting Point mission is to offer an outlook of contemporary jewellery that is rich, replete with nuances and showcases the plurality of options and approaches that is a characteristic of the creativity of these first decades of the 21st century. With this in mind, we have arranged several exhibitions in the Museo Nacional de Cerámica González Martí, like the honouring tribute to the Japanese jeweller Mari Ishikawa; the artists’ selection from Gdańsk Baltic Amber Biennale, curated by Wim Vanderkerckhove; The Beauty of Clay exhibition, organized by the Dterra Gallery from Barcelona, and solo exhibitions of Sofia Björkman, Katja Prins, and Carmen Amador. Another noteworthy place is the Museo de la Ciudad. On its different halls we’ll have solo exhibitions of Iris Eichenberg, Jorge Manilla and Jordi Aparicio, as well as the collectives of the group of jewellers from Greece, curated by Erato Koulobi; the group of Turkish jewellers who present Jewelry Link; the artists from Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Spain, selected by Jimena Ríos; the selected artists by Carlos Silva and Cata Gibert, and the exhibition coordinated by Silvia Walz, Destruction for Reconstruction. In addition, the Centre d’Artesania de la Comunitat Valenciana will host the international glass jewellery exhibition curated by Tiziana Chiara, To the limit and at Octubre Centre de Cultura Contemporània you’ll find the exhibition of catalan jewellery Tresors 2018, curated by Silvia Serra.
Also we are glad to be joined by Jorge Manilla with the students of Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence and the students of Oslo National Academy of Arts; Joan Riusech, curator of Alliages Gallery; the French collector Marianne Gassier; Elena Moreno; Mar Juan, and the group of Hungarian students H6. On other hand, the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València (EASD) will exhibit pieces and collections of its jewellery students and guest students from Norway, Germany, Estonia, UK and Spain. Debates and conferences will be hosted at EASD with lectures by Sofia Björkman, Stanislava Grebeníčková, Katja Prins, Carolin Denter, Jimena Ríos and Beaulagh Brooks.

And last but to least, we’d like to celebrate with you our consolidation of Higher studies in Jewellery and Object Design, created by Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València in 2014. These studies align us to other European Schools in a higher level of teaching and research in the field of jewellery.
