Pic Tips below

Who can participate ?

All the artists making contemporary art jewelry, independent on their experience or diploma.

I’m a newbie, can I send my application ?

Of course, exhibition is open to all, newbies and confirmed. Experience or curriculum vitae is not taken into account for the selection.

Group applications are allowed ? Brands are allowed ?

No, group applications are not allowed, only individual applications and with artist name. No brands or nicknames allowed.

I would like to submit one work that is composed by several parts (ex. rings). They all are connected and it is important that the pieces are seen together. Is it possible to submit this group of five rings as one work ?

Yes, you can submit a work composed of different elements as unique work.

Works presented must be on sale or I can apply just to show my work ?

As you want, our goal is to promote and educate to Contemporary Art Jewelry. If your works are not to sell, we will include them in the exhibition just to show them. You can have also a mix of sales and not sales.

When and how the works are returned to the artist ? Will I have the return done quickly ?

Works are returned when exhibition ends via French Mail-post (see conditions). Return packaging may last several weeks and it will be at artist charge.

Can I send my application other than by the form ? can I send it by email? Or via WeTransfer, dropbox, etc ?

No. The only way to send the application is using our form, in our website. This guarantee we have all necessary information we need to consider correctly your application. Don’t forget to read carefully the instructions concerning the pictures : format, size, caption, statement, etc … If these instructions are not respected, application will not be taken in consideration.

Can I apply twice ? I mean, I got wrong and I would like to amend my application ?

No, we will only accept the first application. Please be careful and accurate with your send your application.

I want to present 2 (or 3) works, am I obliged to send a unique application with all the works ? or can I send several application with 1 work each ?

Only a unique application is allowed (the first application sent).

I do not know if I will finish the works for the application, can I send a draft ?

No, only finished works will be considered.

About the statement, what does it means « Statement for this exhibition » ? Why to write only in English ? Why texts are limited in number of characters ?

The « Statement for this exhibition » means how you relate the exhibition subject to the work(s) presented. Why text must be in English ? Because if you are selected, these texts will be in a virtual exhibition and media. Having all texts directly in English from the artists give a consistency to the whole and respects the concept of each artist. The limitation of characters is also to give a consistency between all texts.

All informations in the « caption » are mandatory ? Do I have to follow the indications (line 1, line 2, etc …) or can I put captions however I want ? Why ? What happens if I don’t do it this way ?

All captions indicated in the application form are mandatory, and in the way it is indicated :

line 1 : jewel type, title, year
line 2 : materials used, dimensions (specify Unit of Measure)
line 3 : techniques used
line 4 : name photographer/© picture (if any)

Only the 4th line is optional, if you don’t need to inform about the copyright of the picture.

This is to be sure information of all artists is formatted the same way for the communication. If info is not sent this way and in this order, application may be not considered.

Why do I have to rename the pics with a specific name ? What happens if I do another name ?

You have to rename your pics with a specific naming, this to allow us to better and easily manage your pictures. You have to rename your pics this way : yourname-title_x where « x » is the order number. Do not use espaces in the filename, use dash or underscore instead. If you do not rename the pics this way, we will be obliged to discard your application as we will not be able to find the pictures in the database.

What does it mean exactly condition #6 and specially « Assignment of the right of media reproduction granted by the ARTIST is non-exclusive, non-transferable, unlimited territory for the distribution of reproductions. » ?

This condition means that you allow us to use the picture and text you have sent in the application to promote this exhibition and in future communications (first sentence).

Second sentence (« Assignment of the right of media reproduction granted by the ARTIST is non-exclusive, non-transferable, unlimited territory for the distribution of reproductions. ») means that in any case, ARTIST remains the owner of the picture (non-transferable) but he/she allows us to use it for communication & promotion purposes (non-exclusive).

How to know if the quality of my pics is good ?

First, your works should be photographed on a neutral, preferably white background with good lighting (avoid the flash). Be sure to choose the good lighting mode on the mode of shooting your device to avoid wrong pictures. Most cameras or photo software will tell you the size of your photo and the number of pixels (dpi) – you can find this information in the image properties. To send your application, a definition of 75 dpi and a size photos of 2000x2000px is largely sufficient. If, despite these adjustments, your photo is too heavy (more than 500 kb), you can easily reduce it using your usual software image or a simple program like Paint, Gimp, Photoshop, etc (« resize » and « percentage »).

Why to pay a fee to send an application ? How to pay the application fee ? Why to pay a fee if I’m selected ?

ALLIAGES receives no funding or support from any state or private organism and works as a collective. All costs of the exhibition (rental, opening, communication, flyers, etc …) are paid by the artists. Because its associative form, ALLIAGES can only expose their members which pay a fee. This is the reason why we ask for a modest participation to apply, and all the money collected with the application fees is used to promote contemporary art jewelry artists.

How to pay the application fee ? Once you will have filled correctly the application form, you will be redirected to the payment page. This will connect you to the Paypal interface, where you will be able to pay with your Paypal account or any credit card.

Once selected, why to pay ? Because you become member of the organization during the exhibition period and you must pay a fee (French laws only allow us to present the work of our members). This fee covers this membership (that includes insurance during presence in exhibition based on organization contract) and all the expenses generated for the exhibition (invitations, opening, local rent, etc ….). Participate to these expenses allow us to decrease the commission on sales (as low as 15%).

Didn’t pay immediately and lost payment page. How can I have the page ?

If you closed accidentally the payment page, the link is : https://alliages.org/call-for-project-application-payment/

How to pack my works ? Can I send my pieces by mail-post ? Where do I have to send my works if I’m selected ?

Of course you can send by mail-post, just bear in mind that concept « fragile » does not exist in mail-post, or is not always respected. When sending your package by mail or by carrier, it is better to take some precautions. This way your items will arrive in perfect condition to Alliages. The use of cardboard boxes, solid and in perfect condition is obviously essential. The ideal is to protect the work sent with bubble wrap in several layers and then to also provide a padding of the box either with bubble wrap or with flakes.

Works have to be sent to ALLIAGES headquarters (Lille, France).

Is it mandatory to have our own insurance?

We have our insurance that covers the exhibition, but you can have yours, especially for the transports (our insurance does not cover transportation).

What happens if work selected and sent to Alliages does not fit the selection criteria ?

It could happen that we select a work and once received, this work does not fit with our selection criteria. This has happened a very few times and basically because technical or construction issues. In this case, work(s) will not be shown in the exhibition.

What happens if work(s) sent are not the same than sent in the application ?

In this case works will not be shown in the exhibition

    PICTURE TIPS

    Format

You can send pictures in 1:1 (squared) or 4/3 formats. However, if work allows, we prefer 1:1 one. Your works should be photographed on a white background with good lighting (avoid the flash). Be sure to choose the good lighting mode on the mode of shooting your device to avoid wrong pictures. Be sure work is well centered in the picture.

    Size / Resolution / Extension

A good size is 2000x2000px. Resolution of 75dpi with a jpg | jpeg file with 85% quality can be enough to fit the size required. If file doesn’t fit the size, decrease the number of pixels, dpi or jpeg quality to fit to the required size.

    Views

For each work presented, you must send a second view (ex. up/down or front/back). This will help us to better see your work. For brooches & pendants, we recommend to send front & back.

    Naming

Picture files must be named this way :

    <YourName>-<Title>-x where « x » is the view

    Example :
    – your name is « Peter Smith »
    – Title of the work is « Black Hole »
    – You send 2 views

Your files must be named like this :

    PeterSmith-BlackHoles-1.jpg & PeterSmith-BlackHoles-2.jpg

    To separate Name/Title/x you can use dash (« -‘), underscore (« _ ») or point (« . »)

Do not use spaces inside the name of the pic !

    Captions

Captions must be like this :
line 1 : jewel type, title, year
line 2 : materials used, dimensions (specify Unit of Measure)
    line 3 : techniques used
line 4 : name photographer/© picture (if any)

The only optional line is the 4th line, if you don’t need to inform about the copyright of the pic.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
